An elegant – though old-fashioned apartment – was given a totally new face playing with minimal interventions on the internal floor plan and new finishing.
A traditional living space, separated from the kitchen, was converted into a large and bright open space, with multiple sea views.
Key sustainability
features
m2 reusable oak engineered flooring
The original marble pavement was maintained underneath a new engineered oak flooring, which was floating installed without glues. This will allow for future disassembly and reuse of timber flooring and on-site reuse of the original marble flooring.
room with recycled floor tiles
One of the two bathrooms was paved using floor tiles recovered from another building site, fitting with the existing marble wall tiles.
m2 demolished walls and 0 new walls
A large bathroom and a bright open space were created with minimum demolitions and construction works.
A large living area is obtained by removing one single internal partition. The demolition of another internal partition allowed to increase one bathroom’s internal surface.
Bathrooms and kitchen were kept in their original position to minimize plumbing works.
The goal for the renovation was to give a contemporary to an old-fashioned apartment with minimum interventions. Playing with floor and wall finishing, new furniture and very limited demolitions, the apartment was completely refurbished with optimized construction costs. Circular economy was the driver for the renovation: the new floor installed can be disassembled and reusable elsewhere, the old marble flooring is protected underneath it and can be reused on site, construction materials (bathroom tiles) are recovered from other construction sites, and the demolition works are minimized to produce limited debris.
