Private

An old apartment with a dark entryway connected to a long corridor and living room facing the street was completely transformed just by playing with the corridor shape.

The living space was moved on the opposite side of the entrance, facing the Genoa city center and the port area. The new V-shaped hallway makes the sea visible from the very entrance door.

Key sustainability
features

%

natural daylight

Re-shaping of the internal floorplan allowed to provide natural and direct daylight to all rooms of the apartment.

%

furniture recovery

All pieces of furniture – but kitchen and bathroom fixtures – were reclaimed from other apartments/cellars.

items donated

Existing doors which have not been reclaimed (2) were donated to other people reusing them. The same happened to tiles and ceramic panels exceeding those needed for the construction works and to a few pieces of furniture that were abandoned in the cellar by the previous owner.

A bright living area facing the sea is obtained by removing one single internal partition. The kitchen was placed next to the living space but to be possibly separated by means of a sliding door. A second bathroom/laundry room was obtained just by playing with the hallway new wall and building a new partition.

Wood is the protagonist of all living spaces and bedrooms: oak Italian Natural herringbone parquet is installed everywhere but the kitchen and the bathrooms. Oak custom-designed table and bookshelves are combined with 3 vintage sideboards. This provides a cozy and warm athmosphere.

Bright and geometrical is the keyword for bathrooms and the kitchen: ceramic floor tiles with geometrical patterns reflect the light coming from the outside.
